.behind.adopt.a.block//

In May of 2010, I embarked upon a spiritual journey that took me to Los Angeles, California. I was 20 years old and on an unclear mission to discover what life has to offer. I ended up at a place called The Dream Center, in the heart of L.A. I entered into the Men's Discipleship program, where I was able to find myself in the Lord, our Savior! I was later to be baptized in His Holy Name during my year-long stay there, and life has never quite been the same.

During this life-altering expedition, I volunteered in numerous different ministries that were tied into a local 'megachurch' there called the Angelus Temple, and that is where I came across their Adopt-a-Block ministry. This was such a cool experience, right in the middle of Los Angeles, having people of all different colors and backgrounds coming together to clean the streets of the city. All these beautiful people that sign up to VOLUNTARILY rid the cities of trash, they're all people of a like mind - genuinely good people that want to see a change for the better in the community, starting with some good, old-fashioned cleanliness! The results are astonishing, and the community will be truly grateful!

This is going to be such a super exciting event! You really wouldn't think that it would be fun at all, considering that you're either pushing a wheelbarrow,  or sweeping, or carrying a shovel or a garbage bag full of everyone else's waste, but it is actually extremely rewarding! There is so much joy, satisfaction, and accomplishment that comes from volunteering just over an hour a month out of our busy lives, and all the whole time you're doing this, you're building something amazing for the whole community to be involved in.

Now that I've briefly introduced myself and have explained the existence of .adopt.a.block//, or the version that I'm aware of, here is what we've come up with so far... still with me? I sure hope so! lol check it out:

I'm thinking that everyone can meet up at the Wal-Mart in Paris, on the 3rd Saturday of every month, at 5pm. At around 5:30, after giving everyone time to show up, I'll ask for everybody's attention real quick, say a quick prayer, and then we'll depart to a section of Paris, clean the garbage off of the streets until about 6:30-7pm, and then head back to our perspective vehicles, throw all of the collected waste into the bed of the Square One Maintenance truck, and head on home! We'll clean 3 different parts in 3 months, then move to McKenzie, or Martin, or Dresden, etc, then back to Paris. This way, we can clean 4 surrounding cities, one at a time, once a month, all year round! That's the idea anyway lol (Times may change based on Daylight Savings Time.)

All of this being said, we're definitely open to suggestion and support in any kind of way. We are fully aware that we cannot possibly do this alone, and we are definitely counting on seeing some kind souls out there with us, to show our appreciation to God by serving our communities, side-by-side.

So, our very first Grand Opening meeting will be on June 17th, at the far side of the Paris Wal-Mart parking lot, at the smoking gazebo, at 5pm. *Please, we ask that children under the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult* Bring a tool of your choice, and don't forget to bring your friends and families!

Here is a list of tools and supplies that you can bring for yourself and others (if you want.) If you don't feel like bringing anything, or you just cannot bring anything, that's totally fine! Please, just bring yourself! The point of this is for all of us to come together for a good purpose. So please, don't be shy, come one, come all, empty handed or not!

  • Flat Shovels

  • Rakes

  • Contractor Bags

  • Brooms

  • Gloves

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Wheelbarrows

  • Don't forget to bring a happy attitude!
